Sidoasri is a coastal village located at the easter-end of Sumbermanjing Wetan District, Malang Regency. Sidoasri coastal area consist of unique biodiversity, includes rare coral reefs species (Herpolitha limax), as well as home of Giant Trevally (Carangidae). In addition, fishermen reports mention the existence of high value biota such as sea cucumbers, clams, sea snails and demersal fish species. This condition requires sustainable management based on conservation, in order to obtain optimal economic benefits, while preserving coastal resources.

For two years, a team from Corect research group FPIK UB and Imfisher FPIK UB focused on community service activities on strengthening the capacity of conservation human resources, as well as preparing the concept of conservation-based sustainable management in Kletakan Bay, Sidoasri. During 2018 – 2019, team chaired by Dr. Ir. Daduk Setyohadi, MP conducted coral reef rehabilitation activities, mapping site suitability analysis form MPA (Marine Protected Area), completed with inventory of marine ecotourism product development plan and ecodiver training for local POKMASWAS. The purpose of the ecodiver training is to provide skills for local conservation groups to be able to carry out monitoring activities of coral reefs and bethic-substrate. In addition, these skills become the basic provisions to become local guides for underwater ecotourism that will be developed in Sidoasri.
